A freaking nightmare

Ever been to alcohol rehab? It’s not as bad as you think it is. I went to one back in the day and I’d love to say that it wasn’t a big deal. If I did say that I would be lying because going to alcohol rehab was a big deal. It was definitely one of the best things that I’ve ever done for myself, and it was a big deal. I hated being the drunk that I was before alcohol rehab. I was a slave to alcohol and I was deep within its clutches. It sucked. If you don’t already know it, alcohol rehab is really bad. It can completely destroy your life whether you want to believe it or not. I remember how I felt when I was going through it all. It was a freaking nightmare. I couldn’t get the sauce off of my brain. I was always thinking about getting another drink or getting a buzz from a couple of beers. Who wants to live like that? It isn’t fun and it can truly kill you. I love the fact that alcohol rehab was there to help me. I don’t what I would have done if alcohol rehab didn’t exist. Thanks alcohol rehab.

This is not the easiest thing in the world for me, writing about my alcoholism. I was a professional athlete for many, many years. I was always the center of attention, surrounded by people who only knew how to say one thing ”,yes.” Coaches, friends, teachers, women… even the law. My ability to put a ball in a basket got me a lot of attention and on more than one occasion got me out of trouble with the police. All the while I partied, a lot. I started drinking in high-school, using drugs in college and once I got to the pro’s I really turned it up a notch. But nothing ever seemed to be wrong. I made a ton of money and people would always cover for me. I never thought I was an alcoholic. Literally, the day after I retired, I was sitting home alone. I poured myself a drink, and started crying. I had no idea what to do with myself. I kept drinking, and drinking… for 30 straight days. It was during that time, with no one else around, no one to cover for me, no one to answer to, that I realized I had a problem. I’m not saying I enjoyed myself during that 30 days, it was miserable. But now, after 6 months sober, I am glad I went through it. It is something I learned at alcohol rehab, that I had to go through that time to get here. Wow, I guess that wasn’t that hard.

Alcohol rehab programs are not for the lazy. Let’s get that much on the table, before we go any further. Alcohol rehabilitation isn’t for the lazy, and alcohol treatment doesn’t work by magic. If you’re going to get healed in your time at an alcohol rehabilitation center, it’s going to be because you do what it takes to make sobriety a real and vital and meaningful thing. Short of that, you can’t ever expect to get sober for good.

All that said, alcohol rehab programs are still vital to the alcohol rehab process. Yes, the alcohol rehabilitation fight is ultimately one you’ve got to win or lose according your own efforts…but you need help if you’re going to come out on top. The best alcohol rehab programs are the ones that empower their patients, and help them develop the skills they need to help themselves. So please, don’t be a hero here. The best soldiers are the ones who understand the importance of their allies. To win the battle against alcoholism, you’re going to need all the friends you can get.

Gimme a break. Gambling is no joke. I mean it can be a joke or some gag that you experience in Vegas. I mean it isn’t necessarily the thing you expect to get hooked on. I never saw it coming for my brother. It ended up being a huge problem for him and his wife and we all watched it get worse and worse. No one could get through to him before it became really bad, it was as bad as any drug addiction. That’s just how it went down and we knew that something should have been done. It sucked not knowing what to do and that’s why I’m talking to you now. That’s right, I’m talking to you. If you know a person with a gambling addiction then you know that they need help as soon as you can get it to them. They’re probably dying inside due to all of the gambling that they’re doing with their lives and they need you. So stop the bullshit. If you know that you can help someone, why would you not do something? That’s not the business. If you can save a life just by saying something why aren’t you talking. A gambling addiction can destroy a life and I know that. Don’t lose your loved one to this disease. Drug and Alcohol rehab centers also treat gambling addiction, porn addiction and eating disorders. The treatment programs know how to address addiction, and any addiction needs be treated.
