The physical and psychological roots of Substance Abuse
Addiction treatment cannot be effective if it doesn’t address both the physical and psychological roots of substance abuse. That’s why dual diagnosis is such an important part of the healing process. Dual diagnosis is that technique by which a patient’s mental health is assessed in conjunction with his drug or alcohol dependency, thus giving rehab doctors and caregivers a clearer sense of how to construct a relevant treatment program. In the end, anything less than that simply isn’t good enough.
Remember, addiction is a profoundly personal disease. It never impacts any two victims in quite the same way. If you’re going to beat it, it’s going to be because you get care that’s specially tailored to meet your unique individual needs. Dual diagnosis, in turn, is and must be an essential part of that tailoring process. The rehab center that’s right for you is the one that takes that principle to heart.
